I was saddened to hear of his passing. I remember his introspective, thoughtful spirit. Made me smile thinking of him in the Hixson talent show playing a Herb Alpert song on his trumpet. Blew me away.
That was the name of the Globe-Democrat article describing the 64-1/2 hours of continuous Monopoly play at Jim Sackett’s house during the summer of 1967. Jim, Roy Day, Scott Johnston, Rick Homire, Paul Buchanan, Lee Scherzer (Kent back then), and I had a wild idea to break a world record of some measure back then. Monopoly it became.
It wasn’t certified by Guinness, but we played 2 hours past what the Guinness Book of World Records listed as the longest continuous play at that time. The Globe-Democrat ran the article and KSHE announced it (at least once).
We had some FUN back in the days of Edgar Road & Hixson JH. Our weekends and summers were filled with BB gun wars, cardboard box club houses, rope swings, frisbee on bikes, the Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock, Project Blue Book, pole vaulting with bamboo poles, and pictures of 10’ weather balloons to make them look like UFOs – and pestering Susie Syrewicz (O'Shaughnessy), Leanne Murphy (Mancuso), and Gail Sloss (Marxer).
Thinking back to those times, Jim always seemed to be the happiest of us all. It still brings a smile to my face thinking back to those times with him. I was really hoping to find a way to meet up with him again. This saddens me to hear of his passing. RIP Jimmy.
I am very saddened to hear of Jim's death. We both played trumpet in band at Hixson and Webster high. Jim was a friend. Thank you John Robinson for that remembrance, I was on the periphery of some of those events, and remember your marathon monopoly game.

RIP Jimmy. I hate that you left us so early in life, always thought we would get reconnected.

I remember Jim as a passionate musician.

I remember Jim as very kind and easy to talk with. I feel very sad to learn that he is gone.
